Mandala
A portal to the other side, an altar to nature.
Mandalas are used in many spiritual traditions as aids to meditation and as spiritual guidance tools.
It appears as a hovering organic form, only visible in its entirety for brief moments. An ethereal mandala swirling within water vapour, manifesting then disappearing, never appearing again in exactly the same way. It’s dynamicism created entirely by the movement of air through the mist.
The hovering form is constructed from the branch like structures of lichen, the ancient lifeforms that can be found in abundance on rocks throughout the world. Although often seen as single entities, lichen is actually a symbiosis of algae and fungus. Without the development of this unlikely inter species relationship millions of years ago, early life on planet earth would never have transitioned from sea to land.
As the viewer stares in to the light they become transfixed in a meditative state, staring down the line of their own evolution.
